Is Superbuy legit? What checks out, what people complain about, and how to pay safely

Quick answer: yes. Superbuy has run superbuy.com since 2012, shows a Chinese business registration, publishes its fees and policies, and holds a 4-star TrustScore on Trustpilot from 1,000+ reviews. The recurring complaints are verification holds, Chinese New Year delays and small refund offers on bad items, not vanished money.

Every signal below can be checked on a public page, with links. Then the complaints worth knowing, and a short payment safety checklist.

Is Superbuy legit or a scam?

Superbuy is legit. It is a real, registered Chinese business that has run superbuy.com since 2012, publishes its fees, storage rules, policy on infringing items and contact details, and has a 4-star TrustScore on Trustpilot from more than 1,000 reviews. "Legit" isn't the same as "trouble-free", though. The complaints that keep coming up are about account verification holds, slow periods around Chinese New Year, and low compensation offers when an item turns out badly. Knowing those in advance is most of what keeps a first order stress-free.

Trustpilot, 1,000+ reviews, checked September 2026

Trustpilot lets companies invite reviews, and anyone can post one, so treat the score as a signal, not proof. The one-star reviews are the useful ones: they show what happens when something goes wrong.

Verdict: not a scam. A long-running agent with a cautious back office, which occasionally frustrates honest customers.

The App Store listing also says the service was established by Haixing Gong, described there as a co-founder of Tencent. That's Superbuy's own claim; it's consistent with a well-funded, long-lived company, but it isn't something we could verify independently.

What do people complain about?

Reading through recent low-star Trustpilot reviews, the same four problems keep coming back. None suggest the company takes money and disappears; they're about friction and how disputes get handled.

  • Verification holds. Some customers, including long-time ones, report Superbuy asking for ID, card ownership documents and proof of payment before releasing orders or top-ups. Frustrating, but it's what cautious payment risk teams do, and completing the request usually unblocks things.
  • Chinese New Year slowdowns. Parcels paid for just before the holiday can sit in the warehouse for weeks. One reviewer's parcel waited over a month.
  • Compensation for bad items. A recurring grievance is being offered a small partial refund when an item from a seller turns out poorly. Superbuy is the agent, not the seller, and its influence over a Taobao shop is limited.
  • Price of premium shipping. Courier lines like DHL are expensive. Superbuy's replies point to cheaper and tax-inclusive lines, which are slower.
Verdict: the risks are delay and disputes, not theft. Use the free QC photos to reject bad items while they're still in China, which is when Superbuy can actually help.

Is Superbuy safe to pay?

Paying Superbuy is as safe as the method you pay with. PayPal is no longer offered (Superbuy announced its removal in October 2024; see our Superbuy PayPal page), so the practical options are cards, Wise, Alipay, WeChat Pay and UnionPay. A credit card gives you a chargeback route if something goes badly wrong; Wise is usually cheaper on exchange rates but offers less protection.

  • Pay only for your current order, especially the first time; don't keep a balance.
  • Pay only inside superbuy.com or the official app. Never pay a "Superbuy agent" by bank transfer or in a chat.
  • Type the address yourself. Look-alike sites exist for every well-known agent. This site is independent and never asks for your login.

How to make your first Superbuy order low-risk

If you're still unsure, structure the first order so that the worst case is small and cheap to recover from:

  1. Buy one or two low-cost Taobao itemsPick shops with long sales histories. With a CN¥0 service fee, a test order costs you only the item price and shipping.
  2. Pay only for that orderIf a verification request appears, you won't have a large balance waiting on it.
  3. Use the free QC photos properlyZoom in on size labels, seams and colour. Ask for a return while the item is still in the warehouse; that's when Superbuy can deal with the seller directly.
  4. Pick a line with tracking and clear duty termsA tax-inclusive line avoids surprise charges at the door. See our Superbuy shipping guide and tariffs page.
  5. Avoid the weeks before Chinese New YearWarehouse and carrier slowdowns are predictable; plan around them.

Once a parcel has arrived and you know what the process feels like, scaling up to a bigger consolidated haul is where Superbuy's pricing works best.

How to spot a copycat Superbuy site or "agent"

Scams around shopping agents usually impersonate the agent rather than come from it. Warning signs: a domain that isn't superbuy.com asking you to log in or pay; a "Superbuy agent" contacting you on WhatsApp, Telegram or Instagram offering to buy for you if you send money directly; coupon sites asking for your password to "apply" a code. Superbuy's own payments happen inside its site and app. This site uses Superbuy in its domain name because that's the topic, and for exactly that reason we never ask for logins or payments.

Is Superbuy legit: FAQ

Is Superbuy a scam?

No. Superbuy has run superbuy.com since 2012, shows an ICP licence number (粤ICP备2021129378号) in its footer, publishes its fees and storage rules, and holds a 4-star TrustScore from more than 1,000 Trustpilot reviews. Low-star reviews describe verification holds, holiday delays and small refund offers rather than lost money. Treat it as a legitimate agent with a cautious back office.

Is Superbuy safe to use in 2026?

Yes, if you pay sensibly. Pay for each order as you place it rather than holding money in your account, use only superbuy.com or the official app, and prefer a credit card, which keeps a chargeback route open. Check the free QC photos and reject problems while items are still in China. With a CN¥0 Taobao fee, a one-item test order costs little.

Why does Superbuy ask for ID or card documents?

Superbuy's payment risk team sometimes asks for ID, proof of card ownership and payment receipts before releasing an order, and reviewers say even long-time customers get these requests. They tend to come with large card payments. Support answers 09:00–18:00 Beijing time. Sending the documents is normally the quickest way to free the order, so keep them ready before a first big haul.

Is Superbuy good for beginners?

Yes. Taobao orders have a CN¥0 purchasing fee, every add-on has a published price (detailed inspection is CN¥5.50), and items stay free for 90 days while you build a parcel. The two traps for first-timers are paying for courier lines like DHL without comparing cheaper ones and shipping just before Chinese New Year. Start with one or two cheap items from established shops.

Does Superbuy still accept PayPal?

No. Superbuy announced PayPal's removal in October 2024. You can pay with cards, Wise, Alipay, WeChat Pay or UnionPay instead. A credit card keeps a chargeback option if something goes badly wrong, while Wise usually gives a better exchange rate but less protection. For a first order, a card is the safer pick; our Superbuy PayPal page covers the details.
